Edades-Bernal museum to rise in Dagupan
A MUSEUM dedicated to preserving the legacies of two national artists from Dagupan, Victorio Edades and Salvador Bernal, will be built along Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension next year.
Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia filed the measure in the Lower House for the establishment of the said museum.
The national government has allocated P50 million for the museum’s construction, which is set to commence next year on a lot to be donated by the family of Mayor Belen Fernandez at the JDV Expressway Extension in Barangay Pantal.
“The Edades-Bernal Museum is a significant project that will honor the two renowned Dagupan-born national artists,” said De Venecia.
Victorio Edades, a pioneer in modern Philippine Arts, was born on December 23, 1895.
He was conferred the order of national artists in 1979.
Salvador Bernal, on the other hand, was born in Dagupan City on January 7, 1945, and is known for introducing Philippine Theater Design to the world.
He was awarded the title National Artist for Theater and Design in 2003 during the presidency of now deputy speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The Edades-Bernal Museum will become a part of the museum circuit that can be visited by tourists year-round.
It will also serve as a venue for the exhibition of works of local artists. Once the museum building is complete, a curator will be appointed to oversee the collection of documents and other works of art related to these two national artists from Dagupan. (Leonardo Micua)
