LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE TO OYSTER GROWERS

MAYOR Belen Fernandez and regional officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) award some 30 units of floating oyster rafts with plastic straps plus weighing scales to oyster farmers from Sitio Talaib in Barangay Calmay (10 units) and Sitio Tocok in Barangay Lucao (20 units) on October 9. The livelihood assistance is part of the various programs under the DOST’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Program to boost oyster production and augment the income of oyster growers along with the river rehabilitation program of the city government and BFAR. Mayor Fernandez plans to organize an oyster festival to showcase the succulent seafood product in Dagupan similar to its homegrown bangus even as studies on oyster aquaculture production are conducted by BFAR, DOST, Pangasinan State University, Universidad de Dagupan, Philippine Science High School-Ilocos Region Campus, Department of Agriculture, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Region 1 and Nutridense Food Manufacturing Corporation. OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH!
TO further create awareness towards breast cancer and its treatment, the Color Run was held in Dagupan City at the River Grove, De Venecia Highway in Barangay Lucao. It also celebrated breast cancer survivors who successfully overcome what is known as the primary cancer suffered by women all over the world.
Mayor Belen Fernandez was joined by the staff of Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Cancer Institute (DDVCI) in organizing the event sponsored by the Philippine Society of General Surgeons, Philippine College of Surgeons, Pangasinan Medical Society, and the city government. According to Mayor Fernandez, early detection of any illness must be a priority regardless of age. “Dito po sa lokal na pamahalaan ng Dagupan, serbisyong medikal din ang ating priority para sa ating mga residente, she said as she cited the services of the Diagnostic Center of the city, i.e., free X-RAY, CT-Scan, ECG at Ultrasound, check-up, laboratory tests, and free medicines from the City Health Office. DOLE’s TUPAD WORKERS RECEIVE PAYOUT
MAYOR Belen Fernandez joinsP 333 beneficiaries of the ‘Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged’ (TUPAD) Worker program in Dagupan coming from different sectors in the community who received their payout worth 4,000 from the regional Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on October 6 at the City Plaza. The local chief executive had requested the program from DOLE in coordination with the Public Employment Service Office to provide emergency livelihood assistance to marginalized sectors while rendering 10 days of service in the community. Profiling of a new batch of 100 recipients composed of jeepney drivers, market vendors and boat operators was also conducted during the event. (Dagupan CIO Photos)
