Three barangays in 3 towns seen as possible ‘hotspots’

THE Pangasinan police is on alert in three barangays in three towns as the campaign for the Barangay-Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30 is heats up.
P/Col. Jeff Fanged, police provincial director, said in an interview, that the three barangays had previous incidence of political violence and are, therefore, considered possible political ‘hotspots’
He said the three barangays are in towns of Asingan (where a barangay captain was shot but survived), San Quintin and Burgos.
Fanged said they tracked incidences of violence in 2018 barangay elections, and the three showed a history of violence related to politics.
He explained that once a barangay is declared a ‘hotspot’, the deployment of police personnel in intelligence monitoring will be a priority in the area.
“Right now, it’s still manageable but if really needed, then we will request augmentation from our regional director,” Fanged said.
Meanwhile, Fanged said the 24/7 checkpoints already resulted in the confiscation of a loose firearm, a caliber 22, in Mangaldan and encouraged the surrender of both licensed and unlicensed firearms to the police stations by gunowners. (Eva Visperas)
