City has no fund for new coop building – SP minority
ALL five members of the minority in the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod abstained from voting for the passage of a resolution requesting Mayor Belen Fernandez to extend the stay of the Tondaligan Beach Consumers Cooperative at its present location until a new relocation site is found, or grant financial assistance to build a new coop/building structure.
The resolution was proposed by Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia, chairman on the cooperative committee, in response to a letter from the chairman of the Tondaligan Coop on the scheduled demolition of the coop building/structure at Tondaligan Park to pave way for the construction of a new building by the city government.
Councilor and Minority Floor Leader Michael Fernandez said while the minority bloc supports all projects that are beneficial to the city, including the construction of a new building, he expressed doubt if the city government can provide financial assistance to the coop for its new building since the city government is still operating on a reenacted budget.
He reminded the majority bloc that the 2023 annual budget passed by the majority was declared inoperative in its entirety.
All seven majority voted for the passage of the measure. (Leonardo Micua)
