THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) will is set to deploy more than 2,500 policemen and other force multipliers to maintain peace and order in the week-long filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) by aspiring barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials.

This was confirmed by PPPO provincial director P/Col. Jeff Fanged in an interview Wednesday, August 23 and the deployment will end on September 2, Saturday.

Fanged said there are four barangays in their watchlist where tension may escalate during the election period but he did not identify the barangays and only said that there were election-related incidents in those barangays involving barangay candidates in the past.

Coordination between PPPO, Armed Forces and COMELEC began six months prior to the election period, with provincial election supervisor Atty. Marino Salas leading the team.

Aside from the provincial election supervisors, all 48 election officers in the province have been given authority to lead and command troops in deployed areas under their jurisdiction.

Aside from the PNP, among those tapped to provide assistance include the 702nd Brigade of the AFP, and the Coast Guard to monitor island barangays. (Ahikam Pasion)
