Pangasinan gets P15-M help from President’s fund
ACTING Gov. Mark Ronald Lambino expressed the Pangasinan’s gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the P15-million financial assistance as well as other equipment extended by the national government for the provincial government’s use
Lambino, representing Governor Ramon Guico III who was on personal leave, told a media interview on Monday, July 31, the fund was transferred directly to the provincial treasury as part of the general fund to supplement the calamity response of the provincial government for ‘Egay’ calamity victims.
Pangasinan initially reported P103 million damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and livestock.
President Marcos presided over a briefing attended by Senator Imee Marcos, the local government officials, and heads of different agencies from the Ilocos Region for updates in aftermath of Super Typhoon Egay.
The assistance received by Pangasinan and other areas in Ilocos Region affected by Egay was sourced from the Office of the President’s Socio-Civic Projects Fund.
Lambino said assessment on the ground on the impact of the typhoon and subsequent flooding in Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Mangatarem and Dagupan City before implementing
programs and responses from the fund is ongoing as he pointed out that the provincial government has adequate fund for emergency responses.
He said in the hierarchy of disaster response, it starts from the barangay level, to be augmented by the municipal level. The provincial government will assist the municipal level if it runs out of funds.
Goods prepositioned particularly food packs were already distributed in different areas of the province while water search and rescue assets were deployed in Calasiao and in Dagupan.
Lambino said local governments should alert the provincial government even before they declaring a state of calamity so immediate augmentation response can be launched.
He added that the mere intention to declare by the chief executive is already enough basis to seek help or augmentation from the higher local government units or even the national government. (Eva Visperas)
