THE Dagupan Taekwondo Club clinched one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals at the 46th National Taekwondo Championship, a tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Taekwondo Association last July 22-23 at SM MOA Music Hall in Manila.
The children who bagged podium finishes IN Kyorugi categories were: Jana Leah Juguilon (gold) in Junior Bantamweight, Jan Nicole De Vera (silver) in Junior Light Middleweight, while Princess Sarah Grace Pascual and Chloae Jeck Solomon (bronze medals) in Cadet Light Middleweight, and Kyorugi Cadet Featherweight, respectively.
In Taekwondo, kyorugi is a type of sparring involving two students wearing protective gear utilizing fundamental forms of kicking, punching, and blocking.
The four medalists were among 16 Taekwondo jins that represented Dagupan City in the national tournament participated in by some 1,900 players from all over the country.
Head coaches Jose Daroya and Janella Kim Aquino of Bangus Taekwondo Club mentored members of the team to apply the inputs from their training sessions.
“For the novice players who joined a national tournament for first time, this was a good developmental-boost for them to conquer their jitters against more advanced taekwondo jins”, Daroya worded.
In spite of the club’s budget constraints, the Dagupan City Sports Commission with Finnela Sim as vice chairman, extended its support. (Kim Gealogo, University of Luzon Intern)
