DOH belies selling donated blood bags
THE Department of Health–Center for Health Development Region 1 (DOH-CHD1) belied claims of some uniformed sectors that the agency is selling blood bags taken from blood donation campaigns.
Dr. Kai Sibayan of the DOH-CHD 1 said the blood bags are free, what’s being charged is for blood screening to ensure that they the blood required is correct and supply is fresh.
Sibayan further clarified that individuals over 66 years old are no longer qualified to donate blood. The age limit qualifying for blood donation is from 16 to 65 years old.
Individuals aged 16 to 17 old require parent’s consent, while individuals aged 60 to 65 will require doctor’s clearance.
Individuals below 50 kilograms will not be allowed to donate blood.
Sibayan urged donors to get 8-hours sleep, and eat nutritious foods and stay hydrated before donating blood. (Ahikam Pasion)
