Inner Wheelers provide massage therapy training for 11 PDLs
THE Inner Wheel Club of Downtown Dagupan (IWCDD ) led by President Jean C. Ang accomplished its three-day basic massage therapy livelihood training program for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the female dorm of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Dagupan City.
The trainers are persons with disabilities (PWDs) licensed by the Department of Health to provide massage therapy.
Eleven PDLs were selected in this program were pre-screened and interviewed and those who manifested potentials to be a masseuse were selected for the training.
IWCDD sought to capacitate the PDLs by acquiring necessary training so that they can use it for livelihood once they are released from jail.
A memorandum of agreement signing between the BJMP and the IWCDD on July 24, 2023 was witnessed by IWCPI D379 District Chairman Edna Soledad, Candy Gonzales Blancaflor, Immediate Past District Chairman Persey Serafica, Susana Maramba, Susan Yadao, Rosemarie Que, Preciosa Almendares, Liway Yparraguirre and Athena Bautista.
Meanwhile, BJMP Female Dorm Warden JSInsp. Noime Sabalboro thanked the IWCDD for providing opportunity for PDLs to learn new skills for their new livelihood.
She was grateful to the IWCDD for fulfilling the requests of PDL mothers to help and provide for their children’s needs thru their project dubbed as Angel Tree where each PDL wrote small notes about their requests and hung them on the tree. More than 20 requests were picked by IWCDD. (Eva Visperas)
