Typhooon ‘Egay’ may hit Pangasinan

THE low pressure area East of Samar could potentially become Tropical Depression (TD) Egay and hit Pangasinan or other parts of Ilocos Region, according to PAGASA.

Gener Quitlong of the PAGASA Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said this may likely be the last weather disturbance to hit the country this month. Once it develops into a tropical cyclone, it may pass through or hit Luzon, or swerve towards Japan.

Majority of weather models from various meteorological agencies indicate high chances of Egay hitting the Ilocos Region, where two tracks, Australian Community Climate and Earth-System Simulator Global (Access-G) and the United Kingdom Meteorological Office (UKMO) have indicated a lower track, which could potentially hit Pangasinan.

The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) model indicates the tropical cyclone to pass through La Union province, while the Icosahedral Nonhydrostatic-13 (ICON13) model from Germany sees Egay hitting Ilocos Norte.

Only one track, the American Global Forecast System (GFS), has forecasted that it would go northwards to Okinawa Islands in Japan.

There still high uncertainty on its exact trajectory.

“Erratic pa sa ngayon ang track ng bagyo”, said Quitlong.

Whichever the track may be, Quitlong said the province will definitely experience rains as early as Saturday, which could last until Tuesday, while pulling the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

Quitlong urged Pangasinenses to prepare, and always tune in to the news and the state weather bureau for updates. (Ahikam Pasion)
