Mangaldan NHS graduating students get P1K gift from VP Sara
FOR LECHON MANOK TO PARTAKE OF WITH FAMILY
VICE President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte gave each of the 1,092 graduates of Mangaldan National High School P1,000 cash gift each as her graduation gift during their 6th commencement exercises on July 12.
After congratulating the graduates, Ms. Duterte asked, “Magkano ba ang lechon manok dito sa inyo sa Mangaldan? “
When the students initially appeared hesitant to respond, not understanding what the vice president was up to, she said that if she doesn’t get their reply, she would not give the money to buy for lechon manok. This instantly elicited responses from the crowd and shouted out different amounts and she took note of one who shouted clearly “It’s P300!”
Duterte reacted in jest that it is more expensive than in her hometown in Davao that “it’s only P210 each.”
She announced she prepared P1,000 cash gift for each graduate so they can have something to partake off with their families.
This elicited wild cheer and applause from the crowd.
The video post on the official Facebook page of Mangaldan National High School of “Ate Arci,” showed the graduating students cheering wildly when the vice president made the announcement in her speech.
Meanwhile, Duterte stressed to the graduating students that their graduation is also the success of their parents, they who sacrificed a lot to support their education, adding that
those who should be recognized as well are individuals who stood as parents of the graduates.
“Ang araw na ito ay para sa kanila dahil sila ang naghirap. Ang kanilang luha, dugo, at pawis ang rason kung bakit kayo nakaupo dyan ngayon.,” she told the students.
Duterte also attended that day the graduation ceremony of Tocok Elementary School in San Fabian. She reminded the graduating elementary pupils that the foundation to their future lies on having a dream.
“Kailangan na meron tayong vision o pangarap kung ano yung gusto nating maging para lahat ng ginagawa natin sa ating buhay ay nakatutok papunta doon sa ating pangarap,” she said. (Eva Visperas)
