TOURISM remains to be a primary economic driver in Region 1, and it will continue to generate more employment mainly for Ilokanos and Pangasinenses.

To help ensure revitalization of tourism, the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 1 (DOLE RO1) created the region-wide industry tripartite council (RITC) for hotels and restaurants in the region.

DOLE RO1 gathered at least 60 management and labor representatives on June 22, 2023 at J&V Hotel, City of San Fernando, La Union.

DOLE Regional Director Exequiel Guzman underscored DOLE’s unwavering commitment to provide platforms where labor and management can harmoniously discuss their industry’s issues and concerns, and actively take part in policy formulation, consultations and social dialogue, and the general promotion of industrial peace.

The newly created Hotel and Restaurant RITC elected their set of officers, where RD Guzman sits as the ex-officio chair.

Elected as co-chairs were: Shyr Ampaguey of Paradiso Beach Resort and La Union Hotels, Resorts and Restaurants Association (LUHRRA) for management sector; and Edgar Guiling of Lisland Hotel for labor sector.
