THE processing of applications for gun ban exemption in the province for the duration of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election (BSKE) period this October has begun.

Comelec Resolution 10918 released on last week of May, said applications for the issuance of a Certificate of Authority to be allowed to carry firearms must be electronically filed before the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns (CBFSC) from June 5 until Nov. 15.

Filing may be done through the website www.comelec.gov.ph.

Atty. Marino Salas, Commission on Election (COMELEC) provincial election supervisor, said the election period will begin on August 28 until November 29, 2023.

Gun ban will be strictly enforced during the election period. During the gun ban, bearing, carrying, and transport of firearms will be prohibited.

Salas said during the election period, all licenses, i.e., License to Own and Possess Firearm (LTOPF) or even a Permit To Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) will be suspended.

“Papanagutin sa batas ang mga ito na may dalang baril na walang hawak na exemption”, said Salas.

The COMELEC is coordinating with the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office in preparation for the BSKE and guidelines to enforce the gun ban.

The gun ban automatically exempts the President, Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Senate President, all incumbent senators, all members of the House of Representatives including the House Speaker, all Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Sandiganbayan, and Court of Tax Appeals.

Also included in the exemption list are all judges of the regional, municipal, and metropolitan trial courts, Ombudsman, its deputy, Ombudsman investigators and prosecutors, prosecutor general, chief state prosecutor, state prosecutors, and prosecutors of DOJ, and officials and agents of NBI.
