Dengue cases in Pangasinan increasing
THE Department of Health–Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region I recorded an 11 percent uptick in dengue cases in the region, from January 1 to May 31 this year.
Majority of the reported cases were from Pangasinan.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, DOH-CHD1 medical officer, said out of 742 dengue cases in the region, 389 were in Pangasinan; 35 in Dagupan City; 144 in La Union Province; 59 in Ilocos Sur; and 115 cases are in Ilocos Norte.
Only one death in La Union was recorded so far, still lower than three deaths recorded in 2022 over the same period.
Bobis attributed the uptick to low awareness of parents towards preventive measures.
“Most of the new dengue patients were 10 years old and below,” said Bobis.
Bobis urged communities to follow the 4s in fighting against Dengue: Destroy mosquito-breeding sites. Secure self-protection measures. Seek early consultation. Support fogging or spraying in areas with clustered cases.
Meanwhile, the Pangasinan Provincial Health Office placed ten areas with high number of dengue patients in its watchlist: San Carlos City, Urdaneta City, Calasiao, Binmaley, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Umingan, Santa Barbara, Manaoag, and Bugallon. (Ahikam Pasion)
