SP moves to identify all scholarship grants offered in Pangasinan
THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan will hold a Question Hour on Monday, June 26, with Commission on Higher Education (CHED) officials, college/university executives and various stakeholders as resource persons to discuss the present state of the college education assistance programs in Pangasinan.
Fourth District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario, author of the resolution, said there is a need to determine what and how many scholarship grants for college students are offered by the government and other institutions because of reports that many students want to avail of scholarship grants but are not well informed of these and, therefore, miss the opportunities.
Meanwhile, a committee hearing was held on Thursday for an update on the scholarship programs of the provincial government.
Vice Governor Mark Lambino said the committee sought to remove the layering and classification and regular updating about the province’s scholarship program.
“We will see how we can simplify the process, including the requirements, because sometimes the provincial government’s hands are tied about the guidelines required by the Commission on Audit,” Lambino said.
The PUNCH learned that during the committee hearing, a revisit of the ordinance institutionalizing the Pangasinan Scholarship Program was made. (Eva Visperas)
