MONTHS before the much-awaited Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec)–Dagupan City has begun inspecting public schools that will be used as polling precincts for the elections in October.

Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, Dagupan City election officer, said early inspection of prospective polling precincts will enable his office to identify problems early on, and find solutions or make adjustments.

Sarmiento said ninety-percent of public schools in Dagupan City have been inspected.

Since shortage of classrooms is foreseen, Comelec is considering to propose the use of the principal’s office as well.

“Dagupan City will need more than 300 polling precincts for the BSKE”, said Sarmiento.

Dagupan City has more than 141,000 registered voters.

After inspection is completed, the Comelec will start training public school teachers who will serve as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs). (Ahikam Pasion)
