POSO intensifies anti-BOSO act enforcement
THE Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) of Dagupan City has intensified enforcement of the Anti-BOSO Act in motorized tricycles in order to protect women passengers.
According to Dagupan POSO, the anti-BOSO act ensures that all public utility vehicles, which include buses, jeepneys and tricycles, are BOSO-free.
POSO warned women passengers wearing a mini-skirt or skimpy dress to watch out for the shiny steel or metal object installed near the passenger seat that serves as a mirror for a view of female passengers underwear.
A deputy of POSO chief Arvin Decano said they are recommending that shiny metal objects be painted with black paint
According to POSO, add-on implements of motorized tricycles are being checked before issuing regulatory stickers.

Athletes’ foot prevalent in Dagupan nowadays
HEALTH authorities warned over the rising cases of athletes’ foot among residents of Dagupan City who cannot avoid wading in floodwaters due to rains and high tide constantly overflowing to their communities and streets.
High tide is occurring almost daily in Dagupan City in three barangays, especially in areas near the Pantal River and its tributaries.
Doctors said athletes’ foot is a kind of infection caused by fungi, that can be contracted when a person wades in floodwater, whether it is due to rains or high tide. They advised that at the first sign of the disease, a person must go to the Barangay Health Center for treatment before it gets worse.
Athletes’ foot and even leptospirosis can be prevented by wearing rain boots when walking in floodwaters and in areas affected by high tide.

Two die from leptospirosis in Region 1
TWO died from leptospirosis in the Ilocos Region during the first six months of 2023, according to records of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1.
DOH-CHD 1 data showed that the fatalities were among six persons that were confirmed to have been afflicted by leptospirosis from January to date, higher than the number of persons afflicted by the disease for the same period last year.
Prevalent during the rainy season, leptospirosis is a disease that comes out when the infected urine of rats get into the blood stream of a person through his or her open wounds when a person wades in floodwaters.

Swarms of fly pestering Bani residents
RESIDENTS of different barangays of Bani are complaining about the swarms of fly from several poultry farms seriously affecting their health.
The complaint was aired on IFM Radio Dagupan by residents of Barangays Tiep Calameng, Sampaloc and Macabit, seriously concerned of their children’s health.
Responding to the problem, Vice Mayor Gwen Yamamoto told IFM Dagupan that the problem is being addressed but she said only one of poultry farms is within the jurisdiction of Bani.
She appealed to residents to alert her office if problem persists and not just raise these in social media.

Source of fly infestation being probed in Umingan
THE Sangguniang Bayan (SP) of Umingan is investigating the fly infestation in the town.
Judith de Leon, a concerned citizen of Poblacion East, Umingan, wrote the SB to check the compliance of poultry farms, the source of the problem, with health and sanitation laws .
Vice Mayor Chris Tadeo-Leynes said the SB already conducted an ocular inspection on the poultry farm denounced by Umingan residents and it has recommended the suspension of operation or even closure of the poultry farms that violated health and sanitation ordinances.
Meanwhile, Mayor Michael Cruz said he warned the owner of the concerned poultry farm about the recommendation of the SB.

PNP prioritizes racking of suspected guns-for-hire
THE Pangasinan Police Provincial Office is closely monitoring the movements of members of suspected guns -for-hire groups in connection with the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataang elections (BSKE) in October this year.
P/Capt. Renan de la Cruz, information officer of the Pangasinan PNP, said P/Colonel Jeff Fanged, police provincial director, has ordered the neutralization of guns-for-hire group as a priority to ensure peace and order during the campaign period.
Col. Fanged said BSKE must be watched closely because situations in barangays can be more problematic than during the local and national elections.
Meanwhile, De la Cruz said, the gun ban will start on August 28 and will end on November 29. Application for gun ban exemption is ongoing until November 15.
