MORE than one hundred secondary school students fainted and fell during their performances for the Street Dancing competition on Wednesday, June 7, as part of the Kankanen Festival 2023 in Asingan town.

In an interview with Asingan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Chief Dr. Jesus Cardinez over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan, he said the students suffered from heat exhaustion, fatigue and lack of sleep due to incessant dance rehearsals.

The group assembled at six in the morning, then proceeded to the parade grounds, in front of the town’s Rural Health Unit, dancing until the plaza and auditorium for their final performance.

“Natapos ang competition mag-ala una na ng hapon”, said Cardinez.

According to witnesses and sources, the participants from different schools rehearsed until late night, some till the wee hours of the morning.

Dancers began fainting when the first of nine teams began their dances. By 1 p.m., 117 students were recorded by the MDRRMO to have fainted.

Response clusters were quick to respond, and the students eventually recovered.

Nakauwi po silang lahat nasa maayos na pong kalagayan”, said Cardinez. (Ahikam Pasion)
