Drug peddlers evade arrest in shootout during buy-bust ops
PANGASINAN police are on the hunt for four suspected drug dealers who managed to evade arrest during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Bari, Mangaldan town Sunday afternoon, May 21.
P/Captain Ivan Cliff Ananayo, investigator at the Mangaldan Police Station, said one of the suspects with the alias “Kevin”, an alleged resident of Santa Barbara town, was accompanied by three still unidentified suspects.
“Kevin” who set the date for the transaction mid-afternoon in the barangay, arrived at the designated place in an SUV, and parked near the policeman who posed as a buyer.
After the transaction, one of the intel operatives rushed to the SUV driver’s window to make the arrest, but the driver managed to draw his gun and shot the police operative but missed.
Operatives managed to return fire, as the suspects managed to escape on board the SUV headed towards Mapandan town.
The hot pursuit and dragnet operations resulted in the recovery of the abandoned SUV in Barangay Coral, Mapandan town.
Shortly after operatives from the Provincial Investigation and Detection Management Unit who arrived at the Mangaldan Police Station to assist in the investigation, Ananayo said the owner of the abandoned SUV arrived at the station with the information that the four suspects rented the SUV on pretext that is going to be used for their travel to Baguio City, but was ordered to step out of the vehicle when it arrived at Mangaldan town.
