Asingan eyes 1-km long rice cake in Kankanen Festival
THE Asingan local government unit is set to do something special when it celebrates Kankanen Festival on June – to produce and set up a one-kilometer long rice cake!
Michael Soliven, the town’s Tourism Officer, said the kilometer-long rice delicacy is being planned to pitch for the title “longest rice cake” in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Last year, the town laid out more than 200 trays of kankanen, locally known as inkiwar, to highlight the celebration of the town’s abundant harvest.
This year, the town now aims to procure 2,000 kilos of glutinous rice for the production of the one-kilometer long Inkiwar.
The plan is to lay down the cooked Inkiwar from the town’s municipal plaza at six in the morning to the Ramos Bridge, the longest bridge in Region I.
Soliven said while they would want to celebrate the fiesta on top of the bridge, the security and safety of festival goers is priority.
The festival that aims to boost local tourism and business in town, will also feature Taray ti Asingan on June 5, a skateboarding competition and medical mission on June 6, street dancing competition on June 7, and a grand parade and basketball exhibition games. (Ahikam Pasion)
