DAGUPAN’S Gymnastic Team (Clusters 1 and 2), captured 12 gold and six silver medals to win the overall championship in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics in the ongoing Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet.

All eyes at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome were on diminutive Zoe Bettina Ilaw of Cluster 2 who accounted for six gold medals as she shut out on all competitors, dominating all performances, while Jeannette Xiannea Carpio of Cluster 1 seized five gold medals and Carlyl Elisha Navalta, also of Cluster 2, earned only gold but nevertheless won five silver medals.

The phenomenal performances of the three girl were matched only by the Dagupan boys volleyball team when they captured the crown in the elementary division, Thursday afternoon. Members of the team came from the Sabangan Elementary School in Barangay Bonuan Gueset.

Enthused by the victory of the elementary volleyball team, a highly charged Mayor Belen Fernandez said: “This is another proud moment for all of us! We also would like to thank their coaches, parents, and kind-hearted sponsors for their support. Bastia Barangay Dagupeno, you’re number 1,” she added.

Ilaw earned the gold medals in beam, bars, vault, floor exercise, individual overall, and overall  team, while Carpio earned her five golds in beam, vault, floor and IAA, except in bars where she only earned the silver medal.

The other five silvers for the women WAG team were won by Navalta—in beam, bars, vault, floor and IAA.
