Motorists warned: Watch out for landslides!
MALICO TRAIL IN SAN NICOLAS
THE San Nicolas Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) urged motorists to take caution when passing through the Villa Verde trail along Barangay Malico after several landslides were noted on different areas of the trail.
Landslides have become frequent despite the warm dry season, as strong winds have been pushing debris and rocks since April 30.
While no vehicles or individuals have been injured or killed so far, the town’s MDRRMC warn motorists to take extra care when traversing the trail.
To prevent road mishaps, only light vehicles were initially granted passage to the scenic yet winding road.
Heavy equipment that were used to clear the road were deemed insufficient to clear the landslide-hit areas, prompting the MDRRMC to keep a close coordination and in constant communication with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for assistance.
Trucks going to Nueva Vizcaya to Pangasinan vice versa were rerouted to San Jose City, Nueva Ecija, adding almost two more hours added to their already travel time. (Ahikam Pasion)
