LINGAYEN’S Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) has a new volunteer – Steve Grayson Black II, a 30-year- old US Peace Corps Volunteer. He will serve as a regular staff member for two years in Lingayen effective April 17.

Black, from Tennessee, USA, who joined the Monday flag raising ceremony of the local government of Lingayen led by Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, will handle work regularly done by MSWD employees.

“He will stay here working with the youth, children, family while assigned in our office,” said MSWDO Officer Lorenza Decena.

Black earned a diploma in Bachelor of Science in Psychology and has a Master’s Degree in Social Work. He arrived in the Philippines last February and was immediately deployed for a community-based training in Orani, Bataan before he was assigned to Lingayen.

“I hope that I will be accepted by the community and eventually be trusted to do good work,” he said.

He added, “We serve on projects that are already existing with our priorities and places that are set by the community. So, I hope that I’ll be able to do a good work but more than anything, I hope that I’ll be accepted by the community here in Lingayen.”

Peace Corps is an independent agency or program of the US government that aims to provide assistance to countries by deploying trained volunteers with sufficient knowledge in different fields like education, health, entrepreneurship, women empowerment, community development and others.
