Holy Week vacation favorites: 100 isles, Manaoag Basilica

MORE than 800,000 tourists flocked to the Minor Basilica in Manaoag during the  Holy Week.

In an interview Wednesday, April 12, Manaoag Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario said most of the visitors were from Pampanga, Bulacan, and Metro Manila, in addition to locals who came to town for their annual penitence visit.

Despite the large number of devotees and tourists flocking the Basilica from Holy Week up until Monday, April 10, no untoward incidents were reported with the very high police visibility

Rosario said the town is preparing for another wave of tourists and devotees as Manaoag is set to celebrate its town fiesta on April 26, where a procession will be held.

Meanwhile, Alaminos City has also recorded 33,798 tourists from April 6 to April 10 this year.

Miguel Sison, Alaminos City Tourism Officer, said 9,280 tourists were from Pangasinan, 83 were foreigners, while remaining 24,435 are tourists were from neighboring provinces.

The tourist activity during the Holy Week in the city generated P2.7 million income.

Since January 1 up to April 10, the HINP has logged 100,000 tourists. (Ahikam Pasion)
