Dagupan gears up for digital transformation
DIGITAL CITIES 2025 PROGRAM
DAGUPAN City is all set to implement its digital initiatives being one of 25 cities in the Philippines with its inclusion in the Digital Cities 2025 program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
This was affirmed during the Digital City Stakeholders meeting held last March 24, 2023 at the CSI Stadia that included the creation of a committee for the Digital Cities Program of Dagupan.
Mayor Belen Fernandez cited the high level of priority for Dagupan City’s digital transformation in light of the restored local economy and she called on stakeholders to work hard for the program.
The United Pangasinan Information and Communication Technology Council (UPICT) led by Ed Casulla and Digital Cities committee external vice chair Atty. Wilson Manalo, pledged to work closely with the city government for the program’s implementation as the official ICT council partner of Dagupan.
DICT Regional Director Officer-in-Charge Rey Parnacio said the ICT committee will boost Dagupan’s goal to be one of the well-invested digital cities in Region 1 even as he acknowledged that it was during Mayor Belen Fernandez’s administration when the program to make Dagupan digitally transformed was recognized.
The Digital Cities, also called Smart Cities, is a flagship program of the DICT under its Digital Philippines initiative in 25 high-potential areas for Information Technology-Business Process Management Operations in the country with more job opportunities.
The digitalization program is mandated under Administrative Order 1 No. 8 of former President Rodrigo Duterte that seeks to accelerate rural progress through robust development of special economic zones. (Dagupan CIO News)
