Manaoag ready for Holy Week observance
PREPARATIONS are in full swing for the expected massive influx of pilgrims to the Minor Basilica of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Manaoag during the Holy Week observance.
Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario said he already met with Church leaders as well as the police and military, traffic enforcers, Municipal Health Office, Municipal Planning and Development Office, Tourism Office, Liga ng mga Barngay about their personnel deployment in strategic areas around the church to ensure order and safety of the visitors.
Rosario said he also discussed preparations around the church with Rev. Fr. Felix Legazpi about need for a perimeter fence and the wearing of uniform among church vendors.
The mayor said while the basilica operation is back to normal, church leaders are urging churchgoers to wear their masks when in crowded areas to avoid risks of Covid contamination.
Based on survey records, some 63,000 to 65,000 pilgrims and Marian devotees flock to the Basilica weekly and the number is expected to dramatically increase during the Holy Week observance because the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway also helps direct visitors to Manaoag.
He also acknowledged the help of the Philippine Army through the Camp Tito Abat in Manaoag who will deploy their personnel with sniffing dogs to ensure security. (Eva Visperas)
