DA eyes P10 million swine production project

THE Department of Agriculture’s regional office proposed to establish a P10 million Hog-Raising Project in the region under its Livestock Banner Program.

The DA already conducted orientation on community-based swine production, that will be undertaken through clustering and consolidation, to enhance and expand the production of swine in order to supply the needs of the market.

The briefing was attended by the  Municipal Administrator, Municipal Agriculture Officer, members of the Bayambang Poverty Reduction Action Team, and the Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation. (Joan de Vera)

Golden Rice production to be stepped up in Pangasinan

MASS production of Malusog Rice or the Golden Rice is seen as a big step to solve Vitamin A deficiency (VAD) common among children and pregnant women.

According to Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco, he already invited technicians of the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) in Nueva Ecija to introduce the planting of Golden Rice initially in Mangatarem town during a Stakeholders Engagement Activity where farmers were taught the proper technology to produce Golden Rice. Bakers ask for lower priced flour 

BAKERS in Pangasinan are complaining about the high cost of raw materials to bake bread, particularly pandesal and have asked the government to lower the prices of the main  ingredients of bread.

Panaderong Pilipino president Lucito Chavez told IFM Dagupan that most of their members cannot almost afford the high cost of flour, sugar and eggs, the major components of bread and yet bakers and bakery owners cannot just increase the price of their products for fear that their customers will just stop buying. They said that the only remaining option is to reduce the size of bread and pastries if the prices are not lowered. (Badz Agtalao)

2K farmers receive fertilizer discount vouchers 

THE Department of Agriculture recently distributed Fertilizer Discount Vouchers to 2,180 farmers of San Quintin under its National Rice Program.

This is a big boon to town’s farmers because the price of farm inputs continue to soar. The farmers can present the vouchers to an accredited fertilizer dealer when purchasing his requirement for his farm.

The San Quintin local government said it will continuously coordinate with DA to enable  more farmers receive fertilizer discount vouchers. (Rona Racca)

Urbiztondo SP assures no increased fees to do business

THE Urbiztondo Sangguniang Bayan will not approve any recommendation from the Municipal Treasurer’s Office of Urbiztondo that will increase taxes and fees to ease the plight of local taxpayers .

Vice Mayor Volter Balolong told IFM Dagupan that even before the town treasurer sent its recommendation for a review of the local revenue code, local business men can hardly afford to pay the Mayor’s Permit, Business Permit, and others being charged by LGU Urbiztondo because their businesses had not recovered since the pandemic.

Balolong said he will do everything he can to respond to the call of local taxpayers not to increase rates of taxes due the municipality in deference to the financial constraints of local traders. (Jhon Caranto)
