DAGUPAN City Mayor Belen Fernandez ordered the police to step up its monitoring of activities inside bars and night clubs after video footages of young girls shamelessly getting wild inside the establishments and were being shared on social media.

She gave the order in her speech during the flag ceremony at the Dagupan City Plaza on February 27, also instructing P/Lt. Colonel Vicente Castor Jr. to check whether illegal drugs are being sold and used inside the bars, and if liquor is served to minors, in addition to lewd sexual activities being tolerated inside a bar.

The mayor said customers of a particular bar are reportedly mostly students of various colleges and universities, as young as 16 years old especially on Fridays and weekends.

Fernandez said there have been reports as well of fisticuffs among drunk customers inside and outside a bar that spill out to the streets.

Saying she will not tolerate such ruckus and immoral acts to happen in Dagupan, Fernandez warned owners of the bars that she will close their operations if they do not control and stop illegal and lewd activities inside their establishments.

She also urged operators to warn their drunk customers of the strict enforcement of the Anti-Drunk, Drug Driving Law by the police and the POSO and there are checkpoints in the city to enforce the ordinance. Fernandez said she will also tap barangay tanod to enforce the anti-drunk, drug driving law by also setting up checkpoints and subject drivers to go through breath analyzer.

Moreover, she urged the Philippine Drug and Enforcement Agency ({PDEA), to help ensure that none of the bars and night clubs are being used for drug use and distribution. (Leonardo Micua)
