Dagupan rates high in competitive rankings
DESPITE BUDGET CONSTRAINTS
DESPITE the fact that Dagupan City was without a P267-M supplemental budget to cover deficits in 2022 annual budget passed on by the Lim administration, it still earned high marks in the Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index (CMCI) in 2022 from among 108 component cities in the Philippines.
Dagupan was ranked 16th in terms of resiliency and 18th in the area of infrastructure.
CMCI is an annual ranking of cities and municipalities being undertaken by the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) in cooperation with the Regional Competitiveness Committee (RCC) with assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The municipalities and cities were ranked based on points they earned on the five CMCI pillars: Economic Dynamism, Government Efficiency, Resiliency, Infrastructure and Innovation.
“Resiliency”, of which Dagupan was adjudged 16th placer nationwide, refers to the capacity of a locality to build systems that can absorb change and disturbances and being able to adapt such changes.
Dagupan City placed 18th in “infrastructure” pertaining to the physical assets that the city has to connect, expand and sustain it and its surroundings for the provisions of goods and services to its people.
