COMELEC logs 79k new voters in Pangasinan
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) in Pangasinan registered 79,432 new voters in the province, higher than its 70,000 target.
Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, said the high registration was a result of the intensive voter registration campaign his office launched despite the postponement of the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
He said out of the total number, 50.3 percent are women, while 49.7 percent are males.
Salas also attributed the big turnout to the satellite registrations in schools, malls, and barangays.
“Maganda ang naging feedback ng paglabas natin sa opisina dahil mas nailapit natin ang registration sa community, mas maraming naging willing na magparehistro,” he said.
Dagupan City registered the highest number of new voters with 8,008.
Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento, Dagupan City election officer, said the satellite registration conducted by the local office enabled his office to campaign in all the city’s public schools and two private schools.
After Dagupan City, the other cities and towns that registered the highest number of newly-registered voters were Urdaneta City, Malasiqui, San Carlos City, Alaminos City, Sta. Barbara, Bolinao, Umingan, Mangatarem, and Bayambang. (Ahikam Pasion)
