Rehabilitation of Bugallon’s Dumuloc earthfill starts
THE National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is eyeing to complete the construction of the Dumuloc Earthfill Dam located in Bugallon town, by 2025.
Engr. Gaudencio de Vera, NIA Ilocos regional manager, said the dam that will be able to contain eight million cubic meters of water, will provide flood control and quality irrigation system for farmers in Bugallon that will result in higher yields.
“Iimbakin natin yung tubig kapag wet season, at kapag dry season unti unting pakakawalan para sa irigasyon”, said de Vera.
The project, costing PHP 1.651 billion pesos, will benefit 1,484 farmers in Bugallon area including 1,632 hectares of farming lands will benefit during the wet season, 1,300 hectares will receive irrigation during the dry season.
Dumuloc earthfill dam is expected to benefit 11 barangays: Umanday, Laguit Centro, Poblacion, San Francisco, Hacienda, Cayanga, Portic, Salomague Norte, Salomague Sur, Bacabac, and Bolaoen.
Earlier, NIA‘s acting administrator Engr. Eddie Guillen inspected the area, and urged the locals, through the seven irrigators associations in town to convert it into an agritourism enterprise.
Meanwhile, Bugallon Municipal Administrator Amado Aquino said the initial construction for the old Dumuloc and Laguit dams are already benefitting farmers as their farmlands with enough irrigated, albeit at a smaller phase.
