NBI Dagupan tracks hoarding in warehouses
AGRI PRODUCTS IN SHORT SUPPLY
THE National Bureau of Investigation – Dagupan District Office (NBI-DADO) is closely monitoring and conducting surveillance on warehouses in the province suspected of hoarding and keeping smuggled agricultural products.
This was confirmed by Atty. Rizaldy Jaymalin, NBI-DADO Chief, during an interview on Thursday, February 9.
The monitoring, he said, was directed by the NBI Central Office, following the series of unprecedented high prices of onions and garlic.
Suspecting an artificial shortage is being deliberately done, Jaymalin said his office received orders from the head office to monitor every warehouse under its jurisdiction and began in coordination with the Department of Agriculture for future joint operations.
“Sumulat na kami upang makapagkasa ng joint operation upang mahuli at makasuhan ang mga nagsasagawa ng smuggling ng mga agricultural products,” said Jaymalin.
It will be recalled that prices of onions reached P750 per kilogram during the Yuletide season.
While the price of onion has begun to drop, the price of garlic suddenly skyrocketed reportedly due to shortage in supply.
Formerly being sold for P150 per kilogram, garlic was selling at P260 to P300 in markets in Pangasinan.
This forced vendors to sell imported garlic from Taiwan at a much cheaper price of P100 per kilogram. (Ahikam Pasion)
