A LOCAL radio commentator and three others were arrested by the San Carlos City police on February 5 for robbery extortion shortly after they reportedly harassed and threatened operators of a peryahan in Barangay Tayambani, San Carlos City, and extorted P10,000 in protection money.

The suspects identified in incident monitoring report of Police Regional Office 1 were Ronald Sison, also known as “Allan Sison”, 55, from Barangay Bantayan, Mangaldan; Bryan Caballero, 27; Arvin Garin, 48; and Alejandro Caldona, 44, of Barangay Malued, Dagupan City.

They were arrested based on the complaints filed by Bryan Hermohino, 22, and Joey Posadas, 31, of Barangay Guelew, San Carlos City, both employees of JR Bingo Rama Amusement, operator of the peryahan in Barangay Tayambayani, after the four left.

P/Col. Jeff Fanged, police provincial director in Pangasinan, said the police managed to arrest the four suspects, after the police  conducted hot pursuit operation and set up police checkpoints.

Fanged told local media that the report of harassment by the suspects was not the first time but victims were reluctant to file formal complaints.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo Dagupan, Fanged said Sison introduced himself as an NBI agent and if the NBI rejects his representation, the suspects are liable to face another charge – usurpation of authority.

He said Sison will also be charged for using his licensed firearm in an illegal activity.

The suspects remain at the San Carlos City Police jail till the cases against them are filed.

Fanged also called on the media establishments, particularly the radio station that employs Sison to denounce his involvement in extortion activities tainting the image of the media.

He called on the other victims to file formal complaints against them. (Leonardo Micua)
