TRADE and industry in Pangasinan is seeing a boom after the COVD-19 pandemic crash.

Natalia Dalaten, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) provincial director, said businesses, including small enterprises, are already experiencing pre-pandemic robust economic activities.

Dalaten noted that business name registration has increased by 12.23% this 2022, compared to 2020 with a 0.22% decrease, and in 2021 with 1.86% decrease.

Furthermore, most businesses have resumed full operations, unlike in previous years when most operated with skeleton staffs.

In 2021, micro small medium enterprises (MSMEs) assisted by the DTI have decreased by 8.24%, but the number has increased to 15.65%, meaning that businesses that shut down during the pandemic under the MSME category have resumed operations.

While 45% of businesses that opened are in manufacturing, and processing services, majority of businesses that restarted are in trading and food.

Natalen said DTI will continue to assist businesses through their programs, particularly the shared service facility program where the DTI provides facilities and equipment to increase production.

The One Town One Product (OTOP) program, she said, also assists MSMEs to improve their production in the local market thru product development and packaging, improvement in food designs and trends, and exportation of products.

The DTI also assists MSMEs by assisting business owners secure license from the Food and Drugs Administration. (Ahikam Pasion)
