BIGGER SPIKE IN ARRRIVALS SEEN IN 2023

THE Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) in Alaminos City is finally seeing a recovery trend when it logged 389,006 tourist arrivals in 2022.

Miguel Sison, Alaminos City Tourism Officer, said out of the total number, 267,567 were domestic tourists, while 118,459 were local tourists. The rest were foreign tourists.

The local government attributed the spike in tourist arrivals in the area to the relaxation of the COVID -19 pandemic restrictions in 2022 that resulted in P33.3 million in tourism revenues. Revenue in 2021 was only P25 million.

Sison, however, emphasized that despite the influx of tourists this year, it is still far from its usual peak, 520,000 tourists arrivals recorded in 2019, pre-pandemic period.

The trend was disrupted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with only 93,000 tourist arrivals recorded, and 50,000 in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Ramos Island, expected to be opened in the first quarter of the year, will serve as a retreat area with a multi-function hall with a capacity to, accommodate more than a hundred visitors.

Presently, there are 14 islands currently open to the public. (Ahikam Pasion)
