Region I records 7 firecracker-related injuries, 5 in Pangasinan
PRE-NEW YEAR REVERLY
DAYS before the end of 2022, the Department of Health – Center for Health Development in Region 1 (DOH-CHD1) already recorded seven cases of firecracker-related injuries despite the authorities’ continuous advice and warning against the use of pyrotechnic and banned firecrackers.
DOH-CHD 1 reported that five of the seven injuries in Pangasinan were from blast injuries from boga, or improvised cannon typically made of PVC or cans while the two injuries in La Union were due to kwitis or baby rockets.
Fortunately, none of the seven victims was seriously injured. They were all sent back home after treatment.
It could be recalled that all public hospitals in the region have been placed under Code White alert to quickly respond to treatment to firecracker and pyrotechnic victims.
Meanwhile, firecracker vendors who began selling in designated zones assigned by the different local governments were warned, they will be arrested if caught selling banned firecrackers. (Ahikam Pasion)
