3 rare owl species rescued in Bayambang
THREE species of owl were rescued recently by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) after they were caught in the backyards of two houses in Bayambang.
The birds were surrendered to barangay officials who in turn delivered these to MENRO for their proper care.
It was learned that one of the birds is the Philippine Scops Owl (Otus megalotis) and the other two are the Juvenile Eastern Grass Owl (Tyto longimembris).
MENRO chief Joseph Anthony Quinto initially brought the Philippine Scops Owl to CENRO-Dagupan after a local veterinary clinic don’t have the facilities to treat its injuries.
Both owls were eventually released it to a grassy area once they regained its strength.
The Bayambang local government warned its residents against catching, hunting and keeping indigenous birds as pets based on the provisions of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act or Republic Act No. 9147. (Ella Garcia/104.7 IFM Dagupan)
