Public warned of fake peso bills
WHILE many most already finished their shopping spree, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) again warned the public to be mindful of the money they receive in transactions since some of these could be fake.
Dante Cambri, senior research specialist of the BSP-North Luzon Regional Office, said fake peso bills have been circulating and urged the public to be alert to avoid ending up a victim.
He also reminded individuals to constantly check their banknotes for authenticity when doing transactions.
“The public should be able to identify authentic bills, and to remember its security features when conducting transactions. It is a must to practice this whenever a transaction is going on,” he said.
He said authentic banknotes have rough security papers, prints are embossed, and tactile marks are going upwards as they touch it rightwards.
The watermark or shadow image of the portrait should also be visible when put in light, while security fibers, security threads, and the asymmetric serial number and the see -through mark should also be noticeable.
But what should the public do if the individual receives or detects a fake banknote?
Cambri advised the public to report the received fake bills to the PNP, or submit to banks for safekeeping.
“Anyone caught using fake banknotes will be put behind bars,” he said. (Ahikam Pasion)
