She touches, she changes
By Virginia Jasmin Pasalo
AMONG the many adventures and memories of my travels is a Korean song, sang by a Korean religious, during one of the regular meetings for the World Conference on Religion and Peace held in Thailand. The song got stuck in my brain, hibernated there for some time, until and it forces itself on my consciousness once again, during my crossroads. It was sung in Korean, and a translation was sung in English:
She changes everything she touches,
and everything she touches changes.
The last quarter of 2022 is a major crossroad for my immediate family. Some are relocating to foreign lands to experience other cultures and explore their possibilities. Others are paying for the consequences of their past actions and choices, very dearly, and God forbid, for a lifetime. Others are paying for the consequences of the action made by others, which they have not committed on their own. Others are not changing, while their environment continues to change, as fast as the deterioration from unchanging.
- There is no way of knowing where the new year will bring humanity. Whether we become more human, less human, or stay the same, or become something else. The surprise is on us. From one uncertainty to another, and the certainty of a new day. A reminder of the changing and the unchanging cycles of life, the existence of a larger metaphysical design and the hope that tomorrow comes with a smile and an opportunity to become our better selves.
The Cloud
I’m afraid to drop
here in the sky, I hover
over a vast expanse of land
deprived of trees
of water, full of debris
among waste
and wasted lives
before that, I was part of the water
in a disappearing river
swept up by the heat
before the heat, I was …
I cannot remember
I’m about to drop
not knowing where to land
or flow
or disappear
forever
I will never know
unless I let God
and let go
I will drop …
into nothingness
in the unity of spheres
into Oneness
whether I like it
or not
