FORTY-one more barangays (including Pogo Grande in Dagupan City) were the latest to be declared “drug-cleared” in Region 1 in a fresh validation conducted by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug-Clearing (ROCBDC) chaired by PDEA.

Four of the 41 barangays were determined to have no drug personalities by the committee that convened at Camp Diego Silang in San Fernando City, La Union on December 20 to validate the applications for drug-cleared status of 41 barangays and two municipalities.

Moreover, 471 out of the 474 barangays that were already declared drug-free were able to maintain their “drug-cleared” status. The three barangays that did not make it, will be subjected to re-validation due to the confirmed presence of drug personalities in their areas.

PDEA-PNP database shows 2,760 or 84.5 % of the 3,268 barangays have already been drug-cleared, while 508 or 15.5% remained drug- affected.

P/Brig. General John Chua, PRO 1 regional director, ordered all the region’s chiefs of police and line commanders to focus on the clearing of the remaining drug-affected barangays, through the Barangay Drug-Abuse Council (BADAC).

“In drug-clearing operations, we have to constantly coordinate with our counterparts in the PDEA, and the Local Government Units, Non-Government Organizations, Civil Society Organizations and Faith-based Organizations,” Chua told his chiefs of police and line commanders.

On focusing on the renewed campaign of PRO 1 against illegal drugs, Chua paraphrased the statement of DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, “Inaasahan po namin ang pakikiisa ninyo sa ating hangaring matuldukan ang illegal na droga sa bansa.” (Leonardo Micua)
