A resolution sponsored by members of the majority of the Dagupan Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) calling on accountability over the use of the SP over the broadcast of its session on Facebook, was opposed by all members of the minority.

The resolution, proposed by Councilor Redford Erfe-Mejia, was seconded by Councilors Librada Macalanda, Alvin Coquia and Celia Lim and backed by Alfie Fernandez, Marilou Fernandez and Irene Lim-Acosta.

The resolution manifested the complaint of the majority that “spliced and edited” segments of the SP sessions are being posted in the Facebook page “Sangguniang Panlungsod -The Session Hall” with the official email address of the SP on the FB page.

Councilor and Minority Floor Leader Michael Fernandez cited the five-man minority’s reasons for their objection:

  1. They already registered their objection to the timing of the submission of the committee report a copy of which came to them just before the session started;
  2. There was nothing libelous in the coverage that was the subject of the majority’s resolution;
  3. While the resolution calls for accountability, it reminds the public that the Facebook page is not authorized.

The resolutory clause reads: “RESOLVED as it is hereby resolved to REMIND the public that this Facebook page with the handle  Sangguniang Panlungsod -The Session Hall and bear the official email address of the Sangguniang Panlungsod or information details of its  subject page is not authorized as an official platform of the Sanggunian.”

Noting five objections, Vice Mayor and SP presiding officer Bryan Kua declared the resolution as approved with objections. (Leonardo Micua)
