DOH launches ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok’ anew
THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) in Region I is set to launch its ‘Oplan Iwas Paputok’ anti-firecracker campaign this week to heighten awareness during the holiday season.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, DOH-CHD1 Medical Officer IV, said the goal is to bring down number of casualties caused by unsafe and irresponsible lighting of firecrackers.
The campaign urges the public to patronize traditional noise-making and lights, instead of using firecrackers.
The DOH has started to coordinate with hospitals in the region for the compilation of comprehensive log of injuries from firecrackers and stray bullets.
At the same time, Bobis said the DOH is closely monitoring the possible rise of cases of infectious and non-infectious diseases this Yuletide season, i.e., hypertension, heart attacks, and COVID-19. (Ahikam Pasion)
