Mangaldan observes Buntis Day
SOME 240 pregnant women in Mangaldan participated in the Buntis Day 22 led by town officials at the town’s Infirmary and Urgent Clinic.
The Buntis Day was held to help pregnant women watch their health and maintain their nutrition and in order to reduce the number of women who die of complications when giving birth.
Lectures on Prenatal Care, Birth Plan, Postnatal Care, Nutrition, Breastfeeding, Family Planning and Childhood Immunization by the Municipal Health Office was held to prepare the pregnant women in their role as mothers.
The participants received Kikay Kits containing hygiene, beauty and wellness items and milk. (Ella Garcia)

Youth Camp held in Alaminos City
CHILD representatives of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) participated in a two-day youth camp called “Sandugo para sa SangDaang Pulo” in Alaminos City recently.
Organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Family Planning Organization of the Philippines (FPOP), the youth camp inculcated in the participants on the importance of values reformation, cooperation, firmness and creativity during discussion on Adolescent Growth Development, Gender Based Violence and Human Rights and Leadership and Values.
They also planted mangroves in the coastal areas to demonstrate their active involvement in the city’s sustainable environmental protection. (Joana de Vera)

Labrador eyed as first site of PH nuclear plant
LABRADOR will likely be the site of the first-ever nuclear plant in the country after Second District Rep. Mark Cojuangco and officials of the China National Nuclear Corporation met with the town’s officials and residents.
The town officials were briefed on the benefits of nuclear energy, particularly, of cheaper and affordable electricity in their homes and work places.
The officials of Labrador had indicated that they are open to partner with Congress and organizations involved in nuclear energy to help ensure the realization of the project in the future. (Rona Racca)

Drug awareness symposium held in Aguilar
IN a bid to heighten the awareness of the people on the ill effects of illegal drugs, an Anti-Drug Awareness Symposium and Morale Recovery Program was recently held at the Doña Emma Ballesteros Bldg. in Aguilar town.
Organized by the Aguilar Police Station, headed by P/Major Mark Ryan Taminaya, OIC-chief, the symposium explained the consequences of drug addiction to the residents, particularly, significant changes in character and attitude towards family, peers and the community.
The forum also discussed the different kinds of illegal drugs being sold and distributed in the country. (Jhon Caranto)

159 typhoon victims receive aid from Capitol
LINGAYEN’S 159 victims of Typhoon Paeng in Brgy. Libsong East, again received 25,000 kilograms of rice, 10 liters of 500 bottled water, 500 pieces of T-shirts from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
Relief packs were already delivered to them last month.
Various organizations including the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) joined the provincial government in providing relief to the typhoon victims.

Phivolcs conducts seminar on earthquake, tsunami
THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) conducted a seminar in Infanta town to prepare the residents of coastal barangays in the event earthquakes and tsunamis hit the coastal town.
The seminar was held in Barangay Poblacion, Infanta under the program Establishment of Alerting System for Tsunami Prone Coast.
Discussed were the different steps and actions that should be taken when an earthquake strikes, especially if a tsunami follows.
Infanta is the closest town in Pangasinan to the Manila Trench, a fault line that runs from north to south in the West Philippine Sea.

OWWA visit Basista, Western Pangasinan
STAFF of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Region 1 visited Basista and other towns of Western Pangasinan to bring their “Parokya ng OWWA sa Barangay at Pamilyang OFW“ program and services to 186 OFW families.
An open forum was held to discuss issues and urgent concerns of OWWA families.

Dagupan’s improved health care system discussed
THE healthcare system of Dagupan was discussed during a 4th Quarter City Health Board Meeting spearheaded by Mayor Belen Fernandez.
Among those discussed were updates on the Bakunahang Bayan, Emergency Operation Center, Ubo Patrol Program Child Health Advocate programs, Local Investment Plan for Health (2023-2025) and Annual Operational Plan for 2023, Passage of Resolution Recommending the Approval of the Mayor of the LIPH 2023-2025 and AOP 2023, World AIDS Day Celebration and Concurrence of the HIV/AIDS Council, Updates on the Universal Health Care Local Health System Maturity Level, and the passage of a Resolution for the Organization of the City DRRMH System. Comelec opens registration of new voters
REGISTRATION of new voters in Pangasinan started December 1 this year, according to Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas.
Qualified to register are residents from 15 years old and up. To facilitate their registration, they must present their birth certificates or any government-issued identification cards to verify their identity.
Salas is hoping that owners of private malls in the province will again be willing to provide a space where the poll body can register qualified new voters.
According to Salas, the Comelec will conduct a separate experimental activity in a selected mall in Metro Manila for the pilot-testing of the Register Anywhere Project (RAP),
Under the poll body’s RAP, residents of Pangasinan residing in Metro Manila may register as voters of Pangasinan. (John Caranto)
