Bayambang bailey bridge finally open to light vehicles

By November 13, 2022Top Stories

GOOD news to commuters from both Camiling and Bayambang who were inconvenienced for weeks!

The temporary bailey bridge constructed over the collapsed span of the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge along the Camiling-Wawa-Bayambang, Malasiqui road stretch is already open to light vehicles with maximum weight capacity of five tons only.

Esperanza Tinaza, regional public information officer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Ilocos, however, clarified that the Bailey Bridge is only a one-lane bridge and vehicles may only cross the bridge randomly and motorists will be required to keep a 20-meter distance between vehicles.

The bridge is off limits to cargo trucks, buses and jeepneys loaded with passengers

The personnel of DPWH, Bayambang local government and the PNP have been deployed in the area to enforce restrictions and direct traffic.

To alleviate the situation, Bayambang government arranged free shuttle for affected students, workers, and residents from Barangay San Vicente to the Bayambang Municipal Hall and vice-versa.

A span of the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge collapsed on October 20 due to the full weight of two overloaded dump trucks that crossed the bridge at the same time.

The Bailey bridge was constructed in three weeks since the DPWH and the Provincial Engineering Office with the prompt arrival of bailey panels and other materials sourced out from other engineering districts in the region.

All heavy vehicles are  still being advised to find other alternative routes in going to and from Pangasinan like the longer (Carmen Junction to Manat Road) Aguilar Road via Bocboc Bridge in Mangatarem and vice versa and the (Carmen Junction -Manat Road) Bayambang -Bautista-Alcala-Sto. Tomas-Carmen, Rosales/Manila North Road and vice versa. (Leonardo Micua)
