AUTOPRO members resist LPTRP

OPERATORS of traditional jeepneys are not altogether happy with the impending approval and implementation soon of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) for Pangasinan.

This was echoed by Bernard Tuliao, president of the Association of United Transport Organization Provincewide (AUTOPRO), whose many members will be displaced once the LPTRP is in effect province-wide.

In an interview by IFM Radio Dagupan, Tuliao said local operators and drivers are continuously appealing to the government to allow traditional jeepneys that passed the standards of roadworthiness ply their routes, not simply based on the age of their engines.

He said many of the traditional jeepneys and can compete with the modern jeepneys in road worthiness. (Badz Agtalao)

Regional Science Technology Fair opens in Lingayen

THE Regional Science and Technology Week on theme “Agham at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan” is being observed with science and technology fair and exhibits at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center in Lingayen from November 9 to 15.

Top feature of the celebration is the exhibit of a variety of products and inventions from various institutions under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The weekly observance through exhibits and bazaar as well as caravans acknowledges the contribution of science and technology to the progress of the nation and the future of the Filipino citizens.

DOST Regional Director Dr. Armando Ganal urged all Filipinos to patronize and appreciate local inventions on science and technology that are continuously improving throughout the years.

Flu vaccine shots to San Nicolas folks

SOME 400 residents of San Nicolas town, particularly senior citizens, were administered  flu vaccines by their local government with the help of the  Department of Health.

Mayor Alicia Enriquez, a doctor by profession, spearheaded the town-wide vaccination activity and called on her townmates to submit themselves for vaccination because the flu shot will provide proper protection particularly the members of the elderlies.

She commended the residents for voluntarily submitting themselves for flu vaccination.  (Rona Racca)

236 seized illegal mufflers destroyed

THE Bayambang local government destroyed the 236 illegal mufflers that were seized by the police over the past six months.

P/Lt. Colonel Rommel Bagsic, OIC of the Bayambang police, said seizure of the illegal  mufflers was in compliance with Muffler Act of 2016 and Municipal Ordinance No. 5, Series of 2016.

A ceremonial smashing of mufflers was done to symbolize efforts to maintain peace and quiet in the town amidst the call of the townspeople against disturbing noise and sounds. (Jhon Caranto)

Manaoag town workers given disaster preparedness training

A training on Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response was conducted among municipal government employees of Manaoag in line with Republic Act 10121 or the  Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.

The training was conducted following the signing of a memorandum of agreement between Manaoag local government, headed by Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario, and the Search and Rescue Management Foundation.

Their training of employees of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Emergency Response Teams and volunteers from all barangays will be useful when they respond to emergency cases particularly when 45,000 pilgrims and tourists arrive in Manaoag weekly to visit the image of the Venerable Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag at the Minor Basilica of Manaoag.

The trainees underwent basic training on Personal and Home Disaster Survival as well as hurdled Activity-Based Training, Demonstration and Simulation on Emergency Response. (Joana de Vera)

Tayug residents get social, economic support

IT’S what good governance is all about.

The Tayug local government continues to provide burial assistance to indigent families whose kin had died as well as medical and financial assistance to indigent senior citizens.

The town’s farmers get hybrid seeds to replace their crops damaged by typhoons to help

them recoup their losses and assure food on the table for their families while the Tayug Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office provides supplementary feeding  to malnourished out-of-school children. (Jhon Caranto)
