Rehab of Dagupan dumpsite begins
FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF W2WI
THE Sure Global Waste to Worth Innovations (W2WI) Facility touted to serve as a long-term solution to the 60-year problem of garbage dumpsite in Dagupan City is finally given the green light.
To lay the groundwork for the US$ 11-Million W2WI facility, at no cost to the Dagupan City government, Mayor Belen Fernandez discussed the rehabilitation works and total closure the dumpsite with officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), following an inspection with representatives of Waste to Worth and City Engineering Office and Waste Management Division last November 2.
Meanwhile, a technical working group has been created to study the P12-M leachate pond, a project of the Lim administration, which the group also surveyed.
Mayor Fernandez said the rehabilitation program in the area includes a tourism development plan submitted by the Tourism Council of Dagupan for the One Bonuan (Gueset, Binloc, Boquig) project and boost its promotion as a tourist spot in Dagupan City.
According to the Sure Global Waste to Worth website, the premise behind W2W projects is to view waste as a resource to be recovered and used to stimulate economic development. (Dagupan CIO News)
