CONSTRUCTION of a temporary bridge on top of Span No. 12  of the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge in Bayambang that collapsed on October 16,  by a crew of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) started on October 25 and is now in full swing.

The Pangasinan Fourth Engineering District said ongoing is the fabrication of the two-lane bailey bridge support and assembly of the temporary bridge that will accommodate only light vehicles.

Barring other factors, the temporary bridge is expected to be completed in two weeks.

The DPWH maintenance crew installed warning signs and barricades at strategic locations to inform the public that the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge remains closed to all types of motor vehicles.

While construction of the temporary bridge is going on, the Bayambang local government continues to operate a free boat service to enable residents to cross the Agno River.

Vehicular traffic had also been diverted towards either Carmen, Rosales or Mangatarem, via San Carlos City and Urbiztondo.

Meanwhile, the  2nd Pangasinan Engineering District said that the Tobuan Bridge in Labrador leading to Sual and Alaminos City is passable to light vehicles only. (Leonardo Micua)
