POLICE arrested a woman involved in an internet love scam.

On Friday, October 21, operatives of the PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group (ACG) arrested Warlyn Tan Castro, 58, in San Carlos City, after serving a standing warrant of arrest issued by the Baguio City Regional Trial Court Branch 60.

Castro allegedly scammed a Filipino netizen looking for a relationship online.

P/ Brigadier General Joel Doria, chief of the PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group (ACG), said the complainant whose details were not disclosed, said Castro posed as a member of the US Army, and connected with her victim through Facebook.

The complainant said they were “dating” online for sometime when Castro told the victim last May that she would send him a package with cash he could use to ‘start his own business’.

After the victim fell for her generosity, Castro later told her victim that the package was allegedly intercepted upon arrival in the country, and that she needed P250,000 for the package’s release.

The victim was able to raise 65,000 and sent the cash to Castro who after receiving it stopped communicating with the victim. It was then when the victim realized he was scammed and filed the complaint.

Castro is under the custody of PNP-ACG, and charged for swindling/estafa. (Ahikam Pasion)
