Only 453 COVID cases in region remain
THOUGH the number of active COVID-19 cases in Region 1 has dropped to just 453 as of October 4 this year, it is the worst time to be complacent.
This was the warning issued by Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person of Department of Health-Center for Health Development 1 during the program Virtual Presser of the Philippine Information Agency Region 1 on October 5.
Of the 453 remaining active COVID-19 cases, the biggest number at 154 is from Pangasinan, Dagupan City, 23; La Union, 142; Ilocos Norte, 23; and Ilocos Sur, 41.
Bobis said that while the region and country are nearing the finish line in the long fight against COVID-19, there is still a need to observe the minimum health protocol and get one’s self fully vaccinated and be given booster shots once or twice.
Of the 18 latest cases in the region registered on October 4, from Pangasinan, 12 cases; La Union, 3; and one each from Dagupan City, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
Citing the 18 cases registered in the region on October 4 compared to almost 100 cases per day at the peak of the pandemic in August this year, Bobis said Region 1 remains under safe level.
Records show that 53 percent or 246 of the 453 cases are on home isolation because most of these are asymptomatic and mild cases and not needing hospitalization. This, he said, is proof of the effectiveness of the vaccines as protection. (Leonardo Micua)
