LTO suspends inspection, apprehension of riders
MOTORCYCLES WITH TOP BOXES, SADDLES
MOTORCYCLES riders in Pangasinan welcomed the decision of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to suspend the inspection and apprehension of motorcycle riders whose units are equipped with unregistered top boxes and saddle boxes.
LTO Chief Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III issued the memorandum made public on Thursday, October 6, directing LTO deputized agents to refrain from apprehending motorcycles with top boxes and saddle bags until further notice.
The directive supersedes the LTO memorandum dated March 15, 2016 that sets the guidelines for the apprehension and removal of motorcycle top boxes and saddle bags not compliant with specified dimensions and sets P5,000 penalty for non-compliance.
Guadiz said a new memorandum will be issued once a final revision is made.
Nathaniel Jovero, a motorcycle rider from Dagupan City, said top boxes and saddle bags are useful especially during rainy season, where extra clothes and even raincoats can be placed.
While he agreed with the earlier memorandum which prescribes a suggested dimension for top boxes and saddle bags, he said that customizing one would mean added costs also for its registration. (Ahikam Pasion)
